The rules it applies
- Minimum wage. A general labourer in Nairobi - which covers house workers, cleaners, gardeners and day watchmen - must be paid at least KES 18,047 a month from 1 May 2026.
- Housing allowance. If you do not provide housing, you must pay 15% of basic pay on top.
- Deductions. NSSF, SHIF and the Housing Levy apply to household staff just as to anyone else. PAYE is usually nothing at these wages, because personal relief covers it.
