Most of Nairobi will follow AFCON 2027 on a screen. When the Harambee Stars play, expect the whole city to stop - offices emptying early, bars packed, and horns and vuvuzelas on the streets after a win.

Fan zones

Host cities usually set up official fan zones: big outdoor screens, music, food and security, free or cheap to enter. Nairobi’s fan zones, their locations and opening hours have not been announced. We will add them to the AFCON hub when they are.

What to expect, based on recent tournaments:

  • Free or low-cost entry, sometimes with registration.
  • Security searches at the entrance.
  • Food and drink stalls, and cultural performances.
  • Big crowds for Kenya matches - arrive early.

Sports bars and restaurants

Nairobi has many sports bars with big screens:

  • Westlands - the busiest area for bars and nightlife. See Nightlife in Nairobi.
  • Kilimani and Kileleshwa - many restaurants and bars showing football.
  • Along Thika Road and in malls across the city.

Book a table for Kenya matches and the knockout rounds, and ask whether there is a minimum spend.

TV and streaming

Matches will be broadcast on television and streaming services with rights in Kenya. Which channels and apps carry AFCON 2027 in Kenya has not been confirmed. Use only official broadcasters and streaming services - illegal streams are unreliable and often full of scams and malware.

In the office

Many workplaces relax for big Kenya matches. If you manage a team, agree a plan - a screen in the office, or flexible hours - before the fixtures come out.

Staying safe in the crowds

  • Keep your phone and wallet safe in crowds.
  • Travel home by ride-hailing, especially late at night.
  • Celebrate safely - after big wins, roads fill with cars and motorbikes. Stay off the road and out of crushes.
  • Drink responsibly, and keep an eye on your drink.
  • Watch the weather - June and July evenings are cold for outdoor screens.
